The Jeep Grand Cherokee won the Best Midsize Utility Vehicle award at the 2023 MotorWeek Driver’s Choice Awards. Now in the 40th year of rewarding motoring excellence, it hands out accolades based on factors surrounding price, practicality, performance, and fuel efficiency- things car owners deem important in car selection.
For the Grand Cherokee, the award was for the uncanny blending of the typical Jeep off-roading ability with an elegance seen in luxury vehicles. Every aspect of the car packs luxury fittings that appeal to the high-taste driver while keeping the macho terrain-conquering drivetrain that all former Jeep models take pride in.
Like most Jeep models before, the Grand Cherokee has a vast array of trim and powertrain options. It keeps the 5-passenger arrangement of the 2022 version and six trim levels, with added features for every step up you choose. The base version, Laredo, has a 3.6L V6 engine, an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and 17-inch wheels. You also have the option of selecting a 2-wheel or 4WD transmission. The latter has the popular Quadra-TracTM transmission system for Jeep. This outfit produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Other trim options are the Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.
The 2023 model comes with a few significant upgrades to the tech and safety features of the Grand Cherokee. They include a new 10.4-inch digital cluster with an 8.4-inch touchscreen front monitor for the Laredo and Altitude trims and higher models having a 10.1-inch display. The premium Alpine sound system with many speaker grades and an amplifier adds a kick to the total entertainment package. An added rear video entertainment center also features wireless headphones. All versions have a power liftgate, heated seats, and Bi-Xenon HID headlights.
A new approach by Jeep makes the TrailhawkTM package, with its superior towing ability, available only in the 4xe model. The Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims also have the upgrade option to a 5.7L V8 engine with 375bhp and 390 pound-feet torque.
