Students from Waubonsee Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, and Milwaukee Area Technical College converged at Route 66 Raceway this May 17 for a special event hosted by Mopar’s Career Automotive Program (CAP). This initiative, spanning 100 colleges nationwide, aims to channel students’ automotive passion into practical career paths across Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram, FIAT, and Alfa Romeo brands. Through a blend of hands-on training and classroom education, Mopar CAP equips students with essential skills sought after by industry leaders.
Adding to the excitement, students engaged with NHRA stars like Tony Stewart, Matt Hagan, and Leah Pruett from Tony Stewart Racing. Stewart, known for his NASCAR and IndyCar achievements, debuted in Top Fuel racing with the TSR Direct Connection Dodge//SRT dragster. Meanwhile, Hagan, defending NHRA Funny Car Champion, raced the TSR Direct Connection Dodge//SRT Hellcat, eyeing his third Route 66 Nationals win.
Recently, Waubonsee Community College finalists impressed at the inaugural Mopar CAP Bracket Challenge in Michigan, underscoring the program’s impact. Stewart emphasized the program’s critical role in addressing industry skill gaps, offering students valuable opportunities while still in school.
At Route 66 Raceway, participants not only heard from Mopar CAP leaders but also networked with Stellantis dealers eager to recruit new talent. The event provided a blend of learning and fun, including lunch and trivia in the Tony Stewart Racing hospitality area. Action-packed NHRA Gerber Collison & Glass Route 66 Nationals events also kicked off with qualifying rounds on Friday, followed by intense competition throughout the weekend, culminating in final eliminations on Sunday, broadcast live on Fox Sports 1.
