FCA has remained committed to its ongoing efforts to curb its carbon footprint in the automotive manufacturing process. It continues to monitor its progress using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) analysis. The GWP score is calculated factoring in multiple areas of focus from vehicle design to on-road performance. To determine its gains in lowering footprint, FCA compared the results of the 2018 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited analysis with those of the previous generation model. In implementing a number of measures, the automaker was able to realize a reduction of 15 percent.
The greener performance of the Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited was put down to a change in metals used, reducing the weight of the vehicle and improving fuel efficiencies through leading equipment and systems.
In addition to the lowered GWP impact, FCA also made substantial savings in its water usage – by a whopping 40 percent. Waste generation was another area in which much success was achieved.
The powertrain of the 2020 Jeep® Wrangler showcases the 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine that is responsible for the gains in fuel efficiency. Alternatively, consumers are offered the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. Both engine options are mated to the impressive TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission system available to FCA.
